BalanceAR is a medium for gym classes in primary school to help kids learn to balance using Augmented Reality. The companion app for teachers lets them chose which kid is doing what. So kids who are not so good at balancing can do an easier game than the kids who are good at balancing and let them do a more difficult game. The kids use existing VR systems to create a new world around them, from making your way through lava to dodging coconuts on a deserted island. With the imagination of the kids and the enormous possiblities in virtual reality, a whole new world comes to live.
Our general goal at the start of this project was to find a way for kids to make balancing fun again with a form of projection. We did interviews with the target group to find the general interesses of kids and the teachers. However we found that the interesses of the kids and teachers vary so our concept has to broad to make it appealing for everyone. While looking into current trends, we found that virtual reality and augmented reality is becoming a big thing. Big companies like Sony, HTC, Microsoft and Apple are working to make virtual reality available to everyone. The only downside is that the glasses are very expensive at the moment.
We thought out multiple games for BalanceAr but the high costs of the virtual reality glasses proved to be a problem for the client to implement it in the near future.
